On Saturday, May 30, 2026, the Haddam Historical Society invites you to Colonial to Contemporary: 250 Years of Haddam Architecture, a special house tour celebrating the evolution of architectural styles in Haddam and Higganum.
Explore six distinctive buildings that span more than 250 years of design history. Highlights include a beautifully preserved Colonial-era home thoughtfully curated by its current owners and a striking Mid-Century Modern, Japanese-inspired residence known as the Treehouse. Additional stops feature a Greek Revival parsonage, a Carpenter Gothic church, a Second Empire home, and a charming Depression-era cottage.

I purchased tickets online. How do I find the house addresses/ gain access to the tour?
Check in at St. James Parish Hall, 501 Killingworth Road in Higganum, starting at 10am on Saturday, May 30 to receive an event program which serves as your pass to access each house and contains house addresses, history, and more!
Can I purchase tickets in person?
Yes! Tickets are available for purchase day-of, starting at 10am on Saturday, May 30 at the event check in location: St. James Parish Hall, 501 Killingworth Road in Higganum.
Is the tour self-led?
Yes, you will be able to explore the houses in any order and for any length of time, with the houses closing at 4pm. Docents will be present at each tour stop to welcome you to the house, answer questions, and share interesting facts. *NOTE - the last entry at our mid-century modern featured house is 3pm.
Are there bathroom facilities on the tour?
Restrooms are available at the St. James Parish Hall. Most homes will not have a bathroom available for use, so please plan accordingly.
Are there refreshments available for purchase?
There will not be food available for purchase as part of the event, but we recommend visiting one of the wonderful local businesses in Higganum/ Haddam for lunch! If you are not familiar with the local restaurants, ask one of our docents for recommendations or pick up a printed list of area favorites during check in.
Is there a recommended route? And - where do I park?
You are welcome to visit the tour stops in any order. To avoid a crowd, we recommend not starting with the first house in the booklet and instead creating your own route. The show program has notes about parking at each location as the parking situation varies by tour stop.
